More of May

Saturday, May 4- Saturday, May 11, 2019

I bought tickets for Shad and I to see Endgame, but then realized I hadn't seen Captain Marvel yet. So I grabbed Thora as a movie buddy and ran out to see it. Turns out you don't need to see Captain Marvel AT ALL in order to see Endgame. Completely irrelevant.

Oh, and while Thora and I were out, Katie watched her first Kentucky Derby race! As in, just one race and she said, "That's it?" After all the hype and excitement of wanting to see this and counting down to Derby day SINCE AUGUST, she was done after just one race. Oh, well. Now I don't have to hear about it anymore.

Shad and I tried to climb the Incline. I don't remember what my issue was that day, but it was NOT happening. I think I made it 1300 steps in and that was pushing it. Turned around and walked down. But I DID get to learn about the government conspiracy of jabberjays I mean, squirrels.

And we saw that guy being carried down by his friends. Broke his ankle.

I don't remember exactly what was going on in this picture, but I never tire of discussing geography with my humans.

Just your everyday, average May 9th.

This made me sad. Katie and I were flipping through the DVD book to add movies to our watchlist and we got to Men In Black. I gave the brief description and mentioned that it has Will Smith in it. And she said, "Who's Will Smith?" Words that made my heart cry and I can never unhear them. I fixed that quickly with Men in Black and One Strange Rock on Netflix. Fresh Prince needs to be part of my house.

Some days, it's just necessary. Keeping a stash in your nightstand drawer is always a good idea.

I saw a meme once that said, "Having a daughter is like having a little broke best friend who thinks you're rich." This girl appreciates the finer things in life, like Cheetos, chocolate, and flowers. She saw these roses in Sprouts and said so sweetly, "Mom, I wish if we could have those flowers to decorate the kids' bathroom!" Five dolla's later...

This was my Mother's Day gift to my mom this year. Growing up, I always loved cooking and baking. But no matter how much she tried, my mom could not teach me (or rather, I would not learn) the art of cleaning up as I go. But now would ya look at that beautiful counter as my Kitchen-Aid hums blissfully while it mixes my pumpkin muffin batter? I learned. Happy Mother's Day, Mom!

We invited friends over for Poetry & Tea (hence, the muffins) and Thora enjoyed loving on Laura's baby.

I have been at a loss of what to do with Tommy's hair for a long time, but finally found a great cut and style for him after consulting my friend Sharley!

We went to the zoo. We had serious life discussions with an orangutan.

And ended the day with a beautiful rainbow!

Paint Mines

Friday, May 3

Thora had been craving mussels for a couple weeks. When we were having morning cuddles this day, I told her that it was her mussel day and I was gonna cook them for dinner. And we'd have yogurt parfait (or something) for breakfast. She agreed to these terms. Then we went down for breakfast and she pouted that I wasn't feeding her mussels.

Bloody hell, girl, I'll cook up some mussels real quick! Pretty sure it made her day.

Once Miss Diva got her fill of mussels for breakfast, we were able to get on our way to the Paint Mines.

I swear, this picture is 100% candid. I asked Thora if she could smile (she could not, her smiling power was gone) and everyone looked over at her. Story of almost every picture we take and it makes me laugh!

Hooray! Smiling power came back!

And crazy faces. The promise of this picture is what helped smiling power to come back.

These beautiful canary wildflowers were everywhere! I should start identifying my wildflower finds.

To the hoodoos!

Hoodoo (noun): a natural column of rock in western North America often in fantastic form
(Merriam-Webster)
Fantastic form, indeed!

Bum Skiing

So brittle and flaky!

I see yo' belly, boy!

Dancy got really creative and intricate with her sand castle.

Kids tell about the Paint Mines

Thora plugging her ears to block out the drone flying overhead.

We don't pick flowers in national parks or places of preservation like the Paint Mines. So what can we do with them? Take pictures, touch, count, smell.

Katie made sand art. Then it started to blow away. Now we know spit isn't good enough!

And then AFTER the Paint Mines...

Got ma nose pierced!

We went on a dinner date to the Korean restaurant by us.
