Nomading Midwest Trip, Days 4-7: Ashland, KY

Kentucky is full of these rock walls.

We arrived at Lincoln's house and almost immediately headed up the hill into his backyard forest. Lincoln and Shad were good friends on their mission, only together for a couple weeks, but I've been hearing about it for over 9 years. Up in the woods, One fell right into his zone. He loves being in forests! He set to work throwing nuts from the ground, felling dead trees, and stripping bark from sticks.

Five followed suit.

Wild grapevine a climbing tree.

This tree is called ironwood because when burned, the flame gets hot enough to melt iron. It was used for gunsmithing during the Civil War.

Caterpillar

Backyard chickens. Like 20 of them.

Aunt Ruth painted everyone's nails when they had a sleepover with her prior to our trip. Dirt, flashlight, toe nails.

Lincoln taught Two to pop leaves.

Five with his beloved dirt and a dump truck.

"Megan, will you take me inside, please?" Hahahahaha! Said the little homeless boy. Hahahahaha!

Ashley came home from work. She took a much-needed break the weekend we were with them. Ashley and Lincoln have twin three-year-olds who love dirt even more than mine do.

Thora enjoyed the kitchen trampoline and jumped better than I've ever seen her do!

Sleeping arrangements.

Hehehe! Four cuddling on Two.

New puppies! Their eyes opened the day before we arrived.

Four loved holding a baby...even though it got dropped right after these pictures. Then we made the rule that she had to sit on the ground to hold them.

One

Sleepy, wrinkly pup

Three had to be coaxed into holding a puppy. She wasn't entirely comfortable with it, but she warmed up over the days we were there.

Two just wanted all the pictures.

Four pup pile-up

Three warming up to them.

Five

Two collected eggs with Ashley. We counted 23.

Three and Two with two puppies each.
